IOWA CIVIL WAR SOLDIER SEARCH

THE CAMP POPE BOOKSHOP CAN NOW IDENTIFY ANY IOWA CIVIL WAR SOLDIER’S COMPANY AND UNIT

Do you have an ancestor who fought in an Iowa Infantry, Cavalry, or Artillery unit during the Civil War? Are you wondering just what unit he fought in? If you can give me a name, I can give you the following information: regiment, company, when he enlisted, when he was mustered, rank (if any), when and where he was wounded or killed or died of disease (if applicable), and when he was mustered out. I can also tell you where he was born and his place of residence and age at enlistment. I can even identify Iowa soldiers who fought in other states’ regiments or in the regular army.

Give me as much information as you can. For example, if the soldier’s name was John Smith, I will need more details to narrow the search down and find the right record.

Just the soldier’s name, and I'll take it from there.

The cost is $2.00 per name researched. You can pay by Visa or MasterCard, PayPal, or personal check, but please do not send payment until I inform you via e-mail that I have found a record for the soldier you are researching. Most especially do not mail a check with your initial request for information. If I come up emtpy on your request, then I have to spend 39¢ to return your check to you. If I find your soldier in the Iowa Rosters, I will e-mail the particulars to you once I have received payment. If you would like a hard copy the record sent to you, please send a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Camp Pope Bookshop, PO Box 2232, Iowa City, Iowa 52244.

For $10.00, I can send you a capsule history of the particular unit your ancestor fought in.

Once you know your ancestor’s regiment and company, you can obtain copies of his military and/or pension records from the National Archives. For information on how to obtain the proper form for a National Archives search, click here.

One more thing: if you send e-mail requesting info, be sure that I can e-mail you back. A lot of people (especially people with accounts on AOL) have their e-mail blocked to keep out spam. Unfortunately, I can't send you e-mail either in this situation.
