We are pleased to offer a new series of books on the Civil War in the Trans-Mississippi theater.
Never before published diaries and letters by Confederate and Union soldiers, selected and edited by Michael E. Banasik
For the years following the Civil War most historical attention has focused on the great battlefields of the eastern theater. Numerous soldier diaries, letters, and other first-hand accounts have been published on the Army of the Potomac, Army of Northern Virginia, Army of the Cumberland, and other Civil War armies east of the Mississippi River. Primary accounts of the conflict in the Trans-Mississippi region go begging for but a mention in the study of this fascinating war and have been largely ignored by publishers. Our series “Unwritten Chapters of the Civil War West of the River” is intended to bring to Civil War enthusiasts’ attention the war west of the Mississippi as seen by the participants on both sides. At the same time, it will offer the serious student of the war source material to expand the study of this lost conflict.
