Camp Pope Publishing is me, Clark Kenyon. I am a publishing services provider. I am not a commercial publisher and do not accept unsolicited manuscripts. But I am here to help you get your book into print by providing the services you need, from editing, design and layout, to complete printing and binding.
I have been editing, designing, and typesetting books since 1991, for my own company, Press of the Camp Pope Bookshop, and for other organizations and individuals. The printing and binding part of the business I contract out to either offset or digital (Print on Demand) book manufacturers.
The Press of the Camp Pope Bookshop has always specialized in books on the Civil War, but I can provide services for any subject book you wish. The great advantage of using Camp Pope Publishing to publish your Civil War-related title is that I know the Civil War and the Civil War book market. I can give you realistic advice on the salability of your title, and, if you choose to have me edit your book, I can more easily check facts and correct the little errors and typos that other editors might miss.
I can publish your book as a part of my catalog (Press of the Camp Pope Bookshop), or under your own name. There is no charge to include your book in my catalog, nor do I charge to assign an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). (If you want yourself or your publishing company listed as the publisher, you would have to provide your own ISBN.) I can register your book with the US Copyright Office ($45 fee), Books-In-Print (free), and add a Library of Congress Control Number (PCN, also free). If you do not want your book published in the Camp Pope catalog, then you would have to obtain your own ISBN.
The nature of contract book publishing is that you pay all the costs. You then receive all copies of the book to sell or distribute as you please. You are the copyright holder and retain the rights to your book, and you set the retail price. Although I don't get into the marketing of your book, I can provide distribution services worldwide through Ingram, Baker and Taylor, Amazon and others if you choose to have your book published Print on Demand. And, if you wish, I will design and maintain a website with a unique URL based on your name or the name of your book for the direct sale of your book from my online store. Either of these distribution models will require you to allow up to a 55% discount off the retail price of your book, however. (See Marketing and Distribution.)
The costs to you of evaluating, editing, typesetting, printing, and binding your book (and any other services you may require) will be clearly laid out in a non-exclusive, non-transferable contract before any of these costs are incurred. (Sample contract.)
If you require only a few hours of formatting or design work before you submit your book to different publisher, I can quote you a price range via email. I'll send you a PDF or Word file of your book for approval, along with a statement. Then, once I have received your payment (check, money order, credit card, or PayPal), I will email you your printer-ready PDFs.
